MISSION


"THE SECOND CHANCE” The Foundation For Prevention and Rehabilitation
was founded in 18 of August 2003
to help the prisoners and ex-prisoners to return into the society.


Since 2003 Foundation helps former prisoners
in whole range of their problems in Kujawsko – Pomorskie Province
and inmates in prisons and inquiry detentions in whole country.

Our experiences on the field of rehabilitation
we have described in
Program of Social Inclusion of Prisoners and Ex-prisoners
"Friendly Return 7”
(the programme is annually evaluated, now we realize
the 7th version of the programme).


Foundation realizes its goals in 3 main areas:

1) social inclusion of prisoners and former prisoners
- Foundation helps to break all barriers in coming back into society
for these ex-prisoners which are mature to change their life;
Foundation motivates to internal transformation and prepares
to release persons in prisons and inquiry detentions;
the Foundation has under care about 40 former prisoners
in our province and over 500 prisoners in whole Poland;
Foundation helps also families of prisoners and ex-prisoners;

2) building the base of post-penal and penal help system in Poland
- together with other organizations which are specialised
in helping prisoners and ex-prisoners (there is no more than
5 such organisations in whole Poland, for over 85 000 prisoners,
over 40 000 persons waiting for free place in polish prisons
and over 8 000 former prisoners coming back into society every month)
we try to create the nationwide effective system of help for prisoners,
former prisoners and their families;

3) building the net of co-operation and exchange of experiences
among the organizations specialised in helping prisoners,
former prisoners and their families in Europe.


The Foundation in frame of social inclusion of prisoners and ex-prisoners:

in penal part of its activity:

a) organizes meetings with inmates in prisons in the aim to present
a range and conditions of the help proposed by Foundation for prisoners
and their families, show testimonies of rehabilitated ex-prisoners
– volunteers of Foundation and motivates prisoners to change their lives,

b) organizes the therapeutic correspondence with prisoners
(the correspondence concerns at present over 500 inmates
in prisons in whole Poland) and their families,

c) gives legal help to prisoners (by correspondence) and their families,
to solve formal and legal problems in their social inclusion;

in post-penal part of its activity:

a) helps former prisoners to overcome formal and legal
difficulties in their return to society after release,

b) takes part in court trials (criminal, civil) to defend the rights
of prisoners, ex-prisoners and their families, as a Social Representative,

c) supports ex-prisoners to maintain abstinence
or begin the addiction therapy as quickly as possible,

d) helps to find, conquest and maintain a job,

e) supports former prisoners in finding
and maintenance an accommodation,

f) cooperates with all institutions where ex-prisoners may appear
and get some support, like social centers, labour offices,
addiction therapy centers, churches etc.


The Foundation in frame of building the base of post-penal
and penal help system in Poland:

a) since 2005 organizes annually the European Rehabilitation Conference,
during which the representatives of all institutions and jobs having contacts
with prisoners and former prisoners (like prison service, judges, probation service,
police, social centers, labour offices, churches, non - governmental organizations)
meet in one place, exchange their experience and discuss over methods of effective
social inclusion of prisoners and ex-prisoners;

b) together with other organizations which are specialized in helping prisoners
and ex-prisoners, acts for establishing nationwide federation of non - governmental
organizations specialized in helping prisoners, ex-prisoners and their families.


The Foundation, in frame of building the European network of co-operation
and exchanging experiences among the NGOs specialised in helping prisoners,
ex-prisoners and their families, is looking for other similar non - governmental
organizations interested in co-operation and exchanging experiences.
